Tourist Information Geomuseum Faxe

The tourist information at Geomuseum Faxe is ready to help you have many great experiences in our area.

63 million years ago, Denmark was covered by a deep sea, and a large coral reef grew where Faxe is located today. Sharks and crocodiles lived here alongside more than 500 other species.

Geomuseum Faxe invites you on a journey back in time with the exhibition "Denmark's Fossil Coral Reef", which brings to life the fossils found in Faxe Limestone Quarry through graphics, fossils, and interactive experiences, offering insight into a fascinating lost world.

At the activity table, children (and adults) can sort real fossils and examine microfossils under a microscope.

The museum’s first floor hosts rotating special exhibitions and always offers a fantastic view of the limestone quarry. Children can sit at the drawing table, dress up as the old limestone workers, and try their hand at tying knots as they did in the past.

You can also join the museum’s skilled guides on a fossil hunt in Faxe Limestone Quarry, where you can find 63-million-year-old fossils to take home or display at the museum.
