Come and enjoy the colors, scents, sounds, and lively atmosphere. The Pillars of Næstved kicks off on June 15-16, 2024, but events are already arranged in the city center from June 14, setting the stage for two days of entertainment and exciting events. Admission is free to both the festival site and all activities, so there is a great opportunity for a journey back to the Danish Middle Ages.
This year, the festival offers big and exciting new features, including, among others, the chance to experience the Czech falconry group Falconia, which will entertain with a magnificent falconry show. There will be falcons, dogs, and horses on both Saturday and Sunday!
The festival site is buzzing with activity! Experience the unique folk atmosphere, take a seat as a member of the audience, and witness the knights' tournament or listen to street musicians. Visit the medieval churches in town, experience street theater, and make sure to pass by "The Stalls".
The Medieval Cultural House invites you inside for small concerts, mulled wine, and short performances that will undoubtedly give you a taste of the history of the Middle Ages in Næstved and Denmark. A new feature this year is a small exhibition about the time when there were as many as five monastic orders in Næstved, which dates back to the 12th century.
What comes to mind when you hear the word medieval festival? Knights, nuns, plattenslagere (plate-armored warriors), monks, or plague doctors? Festival sites teem with historical characters as if taken out of a movie. On Saturday, there is a festive procession with Avant Garden through the city - just follow the music.
Although the official days of the festival are Saturday and Sunday, there are also exciting events around the city during Friday. Friday evening features nothing less than a delicious long table dinner, of course with the Middle Ages as the theme. It takes place from 6-9 PM in Ringstedgade - buy your ticket here.
